S.M. Kamakau says this chief's name is Keopuolani, specifically mentioning that this is the also the name of one of the wives of Kamehameha the Great.

Charles W. Lucas, scion of an old kamaaina family and founder of the Ranch House restaurant in Aina Haina, died July 27 in Bellevue, Wash. He was 81.

Lucas is remembered for making the Ranch House one of the most popular restaurants on Oahu. His family, early residents of Niu Valley, owned the land.

Initially known as M's Restaurant when it was founded in the 1940s, it was sold to Spencecliff Corp. in 1968. The restaurant remained open until 1987.

Lucas' island heritage went back to 1816 when his great-great-grandfather, Alexander Adams, arrived in Hawaii from Scotland, later becoming one of Kamehameha I's closest advisers. Kamehameha thought so highly of Adams he gave him Niu Valley, which later was passed down through the Hind, Cassiday, Pflueger and Lucas families.

Lucas' grandfather and great-uncle, entrepreneurs with Lucas Brothers Construction Co., helped build Iolani Palace and Aloha Tower.

Lucas was born in Honolulu, and graduated from Punahou School and Harvard. He also founded Hawaii Drug and Scientific Co. in 1958, which he operated until retiring in 1986.
